Our story
Foodfirst was established in 1987 in Whangārei by a group of entrepreneurial kiwis who could see a better way together, within the food distribution landscape. Nine small business owners boldly banded together as a co-operative to challenge the status-quo; the independent little guys working together for a greater good.
The decision was made to form not as a company, but as a co-operative. This signified the spirit and intent of the group, guided by the principles and values of this human and equitable way of working. And these principles and values endure today, even as we’ve grown our membership of local businesses across New Zealand.
